The best apartment websites for millennials are more diverse than you might think.
There’s no shortage of online properties to choose from, with a variety of sites offering apartments to rent in major cities, small towns, and even remote locations.
The key to choosing the right site is what you want to achieve, said Jason Blum, an executive vice president at The Blum Group.
“It doesn’t have to be the highest quality, the best value, the most affordable,” Blum said.
The Blums found that millennials are interested in quality over quantity.
“They’re looking for value,” Blums said.
Blum is also the founder and president of the real estate consultancy Zillow, which ranks apartment search sites based on the number of listings, amenities, and services offered.
“We want to make sure that our sites are truly high-quality, providing a great experience for consumers, and providing an affordable way to find apartments for millennials,” Blom said.
That’s why Zillows partnered with Urban Hauntings, a real estate website owned by Urban Haunts, to find the best apartments for renters.
“Urban Haunt, the first and largest online rental marketplace for millennials, has grown from its beginnings as a place to find affordable apartment living in the Los Angeles area to become the largest rental marketplace in the United States for millennials by a wide margin,” Urban Hants said in a statement.
The Urban Hantys are one of several top-ranked apartment search companies.
Other top-rated companies include Zillowers, ApartmentList, and the Zillotix rental site.
Blom’s company has also developed a suite of real estate tools, like The Real Estate Toolkit, which is aimed at renters looking to sell their home and can be downloaded free.
Bloom is the owner of a real-estate brokerage in Washington, D.C., called TALCO.
“Our goal is to provide an accessible, engaging way for renters to make their decision,” Bloom said.
It’s important to note that millennials tend to be more conservative when it comes to home purchases.
According to a recent report from the National Association of Realtors, more than half of millennials say they’re not interested in buying a home and a quarter say they’d rather wait to purchase their first home.
“Millennials are very much in this generation of buying to be sure they can have the best deal and they want to be able to make the most of the opportunities,” Bloch said.
So, Blum advises renters to consider the best sites before buying a property, especially if the company offers a suite or tools.
“When it comes down to it, the more information you can get about the realty, the better, and there’s more opportunity for renters,” Blumen said.
“You can’t just go and buy your dream home, because that’s not the way millennials are.”
