The suburbs have been a bastion for homeowners who prefer to live in the city and are willing to pay more for the privilege.
But now the trend is shifting away from the traditional two-bedroom to one-bedroom apartments in the suburban neighborhoods.
With apartments priced at nearly $1,000 a month and apartments that are almost entirely for rent, some apartment owners are pushing back against those who are pushing their apartments to the suburbs.
They want to stay where the income is, not the rent.
They’re also concerned about what happens when a developer or developer’s neighbors buy up the apartments.
One property owner, a senior, is willing to speak to Fox News about why he wants to keep his apartment in a suburb.
“We’ve had this penthouse apartment and we have no idea what the neighbors are going to do with it.
It’s just crazy,” he said.
The apartment, which was sold in August, has an attached garage and he has no intention of renting it out.
“I don’t want to live out of the city.
I don’t even want to walk around and look at the houses.
I just want to be in a place where I can have my own place,” he added.
Another owner, who is also a senior and has lived in the apartment for years, is a little more cautious.
“The city is kind of the playground, the city is the playground,” he admitted.
“They have this idea that the suburbs are the playground for people that have money.”
He said the apartment was built as a one-bedroom apartment for a friend who lived in nearby Lakeview.
“There’s not a lot of room for me to grow into my house,” he lamented.
But he added that he believes his neighbors would like to have a two-bed, one-bathroom apartment.
“Maybe they will change their minds after they see what it’s like here,” he suggested.
He said that he has also noticed a significant change in his neighbors.
“When they go out to restaurants and they get there, they say, ‘Hey, you’re in the middle of nowhere.’
And they don’t mind that, because they have the city, they don [have] all the amenities and they don.
And they like to be out in nature.”
The condo owners also said they are concerned about the safety of their neighbors.
They said that they have had a few neighbors complain about a person who is driving around the apartment with a cell phone and he is texting and driving.
“It’s the most dangerous thing that’s happened,” said the senior owner, explaining that he thinks it is common for people to get in the car and drive away.
“What if someone drives up to the front door and sees us?” he asked.
“If someone was driving in that car, it could easily kill him.”
The senior owner said that when he recently moved into a new apartment, he thought he would be safe.
“People were going crazy,” the senior said.
“All my neighbors were like, ‘You’re not going to make it in this apartment!
You’re going to be killed by the neighbors!
You’ll be dead!
You won’t be able to breathe!'”
The condo owner said he is not concerned about his neighbors living next door to him, but he is concerned about someone who might move in and get in his way.
“He’s just going to kill everybody in the neighborhood,” he warned.
